THE MIDDLE OF THE STORM

by Cindy Burr

Phil. 2:4 – “…not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others”

Recently, a co-worker shared some interesting thoughts she read on-line. It is about a familiar story to many of us…being in a boat in the middle of a storm. Don’t stop reading thinking “I already know this story”. Listen to an intriguing twist to the story. Through these different times that we wake up to every day, it has been repeated over and over “we’re all in this together” but that isn’t the entire story. We may all be in the same storm together but every person’s boat is definitely not the same. We won’t all weather the storm the same. One boat may be about to capsize in rough waters while another boat may be sailing along in blissful calmness. Rough and calm waters may ebb and flow or even hold steady. We may all experience both situations. Being in this together requires the sailing boats to smooth the rough waters if able and for the sinking ones to recognize there are others nearby. To really be in this together, we have to be willing to find a way to look beyond our own boat (or situation) in order to see another. Remember the many challenges God has brought us through. Let us reach out in Christ’s love and mercy to help our neighbors, co-workers and yes…even the strangers among us.

Heb. 13:16 – “…and do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.”

May God richly bless you today!
