MIRACLES

Scripture: Psalm 77:13-14

Miracle: “an extraordinary event manifesting divine intervention in human affairs”

Have you ever prayed for a miracle? I have. For three and a half years I petitioned the Lord to work a miracle in a situation I was facing. What I was asking for was a good thing. Yet, day after day it felt as though silence met my prayers. And then after all those years of crying out to God, the exact opposite of what I was praying for happened.

That’s when the miracle took place.

In the very moment I came to the realization that my prayers were not going to be answered the way I had so desperately asked for them to be answered, God gave me His peace that transcends all understanding. The miracle was not that God gave me what I asked Him to give me. The miracle was that God gave me peace with His perfect plan for my life.

Seeing the effects of the times we are living in on my family, my church family, my community, and my nation, it can feel as though God is not hearing my prayers. Some of the very things I have asked to change are not changing and some of the very things I have asked Him to stop from happening are happening! But what if the miracles I am asking God for pale in comparison to the great and mighty miracles He has planned? What if He plans to do immeasurably more than anything I could ask or imagine in the situations all around me?

And so God, even when the events around us don’t make sense, even when they don’t line up with what we think of as a miracle, we trust that You are at work in ways we may not see or understand. Like the song, “Way Maker”, we proclaim:

“Even when I don’t see it, You’re working
Even when I don’t feel it, You’re working
You never stop, You never stop working
You never stop, You never stop working

Waymaker
Miracle Worker
Promise Keeper
Light in the Darkness
My God
That is who you are”
